Everest Panorama Trek is an easy and short trek. The trek offers a stunning view of the tallest mountain, Mt. Everest, with several other mountains along natural beauty, pristine landscape view and a closer look of Himalayan culture and tradition; all of this in a short duration compared to other treks.
You can say Everest Panorama Trek is a mini version of Everest Base Camp Trek. It is full-fledged trek like Everest Base Camp, although it takes place in the same region around. Everest Panorama Trek is a very best option if you want to have the best trekking experience in a limited time frame. It is equally referred for family and solo trekking.
Everest Panorama Trek also goes by the name of Everest View Trek. As the name of this trek tells, it takes place in the vicinity of Everest. It is an ideal package trek full of natural scenery, mountain views and rich culture of Himalayan residents, Sherpa. The trek offers some of the most amazing trekking trails of the Himalayas which offers scenic views of mountains, and you will also get an opportunity to have a real life experience into the life of world famous mountain climbers, the Sherpas. You will also get the view of several Khumbu region mountain ranges, be around Sagarmatha National Park (a world heritage site) and explore Himalayan flora and fauna.
If you went for Everest Panorama trek during November, then there is a chance you might witness Mani Rimdu festival, one of the fascinating Buddhist festival in Everest region. The date of the festival is fixed by lunar calendar which usually falls in Novembers. Mani Rimdu is a five-day festival during which Lamas and Sherpas gather at a monastery for “for the goof of the world,” and the festival takes place in the largest monastery of Khumbu, Tengboche monastery. Nothing can beat a chance of knowing Himalayan culture and tradition through this traditional and spiritual festival.
As mentioned earlier, Everest Panorama Trek is a short trek; it doesn’t require much hustle like that of other major treks. You can accomplish the trek without any trekking experience, however being in a complete physical fitness helps. It is necessary to acclimatize even though there is no higher altitude trekking because trekkers often get vulnerable to altitude sickness once reached above 3,000 meters in height.
As you will trek in the area of Sagarmatha National Park, you will need trekking permit from Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC), which is located at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu. You need to pay a certain amount of fee for it.
You will also need Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) card. You will need passport copy, passport size photo, and a certain fee. You can obtain the card from Tourism Service Center, Bhrikutimandap and Trekking Agencies’ Association Nepal (TAAN) office in Maligaon and from Government registered trekking companies in Kathmandu and Pokhara. There is a regional office of National Tourism Board (NTB) in Pokhara, and you can obtain TIMS card from there as well.
Your journey to Everest Panorama Trek will begin with a domestic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. It usually takes around 45 minutes of flight to reach Lukla. Lukla is a popular town of the Himalayas located at an altitude of 2,860 meters. The airport of Lukla is often claimed to be the most dangerous airport in the world. Now from Lukla begins your trek.
Moving on, you will trek towards Phakding. You will reach Phakding after gradual downhill trek for some hours. Phakding is at an elevation of 2,610 meters in the Dudh Koshi river valley. As it falls on the usual route of Everest region, Phakding has several shops and guesthouses. You will stay overnight in here.
The very next day, after an overnight stay in Phakding, you will move to Namche Bazaar. At first, it is an easy uphill hike with some rocks, some steps, and some gravel. You will gradually walk through the forest filled with beautiful rhododendrons and magnolias. In this very trek, you will officially enter Sagarmatha National Park. You will also cross suspension bridges on the way. Moving on you will come to the toughest trail of today’s hike. You will be exhausted and breathless by ascent. However, you will reach Everest View Point, the first place on a trek from where you can see the Everest. No matter how tired you feel, the view will certainly rejuvenate and fill the energy on you, and you will think, yes! It is worthy enough. With all the efforts and energy you put on today, you will arrive at Namche Bazaar. Namche is also known as the gateway to Everest located at an elevation of 3,440 meters. It used to be the ancient trading center and it still is. From Tibetan artifacts to every trekking and mountain climbing equipment, you will find it in Namche. The town itself is very charming with houses built from the mixture of a traditional and modern touch, small shops, stores and hotels and view of mountains. The next day, stay at Namche for acclimatization for adjusting your body to a new environment.
Now from Namche Bazaar, you will trek to Tengboche. It is an uphill trek taking you in higher elevation region. While trekking to Tengboche, you will pass by several monasteries and gompas, suspension bridges and rhododendron forest on your way. Tengboche is located at an elevation of 3,867 meters, and Tengboche monastery is the major attraction of this place. Tengboche offers a spectacular panoramic view of Himalayan mountains including Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Tawache, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. Here an interesting fact, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa (first man to climb Everest) was born in Thani village and was once sent to Tengboche monastery to be a monk.
Usually trekkers return to Namche Bazaar from Tengboche, however, once you have been here explore as more as you can, so visiting Khumjung and Khunde will take this trek to a whole new level. It takes around four hours to reach there from Tengboche, however, you can opt to go from Namche Bazaar as well. From Namche, it takes about an hour. In Khumjung, you can witness a historical school built by Edmund Hillary itself, and there is yeti scalp as well. In Khunde as well you will see a hospital built by Edmund Hillary. The circuit of these two villages is about a half day, so why not extend a day and see all these historical and rare monuments.
Now, you will trek back to Namche Bazaar and Lukla. From Lukla, you will take a flight and fly back to Kathmandu.
