Paragliding in Nepal is one of the most loved and popular activity by tourists. There are several places in Nepal which offers paragliding, but Pokhara wins them all. You probably don’t know this; Pokhara is one of the top five commercial tandem paragliding locations in the whole world.
Paragliding in Pokhara is fun and full of safety with all the equipment; stable thermals, convenient take-off, and landing zones. Tandem paragliding allows you to seat with an experienced pilot but in a separate harness in front of the pilot where you can sit with no worries and let the pilot handle it all.
As Nepal is a mountainous country, paragliding can give you the ultimate thrill with unparalleled scenic grandeur while flying like a bird over villages and valley, lakes and jungle and a marvelous view of Himalayas. Paragliding in Pokhara takes place in Sarangkot which is located at 1,600 meters. It takes about a 30-minute ride to reach Sarangkot from the main city of Pokhara. Apart from giving you the flying experience, Sarangkot also popular for a stunning panoramic view of mountains like Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Annapurna. Situated in hilltop, from Sarangkot you can observe the captivating scenic view of Pokhara valley and Phewa Lake. Sunrise and sunset view from Sarangkot is equally popular. Well, there is a lot you can experience apart from just paragliding.

If you have experience on paragliding and you want to have the experience on your own, then there is an option for that as well. For that, you have to get a flying permit from the civil aviation office of Pokhara. Documents you will require are; passport photocopy, visa photocopy, passport size photo, proof of insurance and paragliding license. Also, the aviation office charges an extra fee.

There are three flights a day which operates every day during the seasonal period. The schedule is 10 am, 12 pm and 2 pm. However, sometimes due to weather conditions flight might not go as scheduled. For having an excellent experience, the sun needs to have been long enough to heat the earth and create thermals necessary for lift.
Now, about the paragliding season in Nepal, it starts in September and ends in early June. Although weather is good all time a year, during the rainy season, it is totally unfit. However, November, December, and January are the best seasons to visit because the weather is very consistent in this time of year.
Paragliding in Pokhara is a very safe business. More than 200 flights take place during the season. For your safety, there is a reserve chute as well. But, as it is an adventure in sky, it certainly involves risk and the biggest risk is while taking-off and landing if some sudden change happens in the wind. So, make sure to choose a reputed paragliding company. Government of Nepal has no system for regulating paragliding. There are no pilots who hold Nepalese paragliding license; all paragliding pilots are internationally certified.
