Winter is a season full of fun and celebration. There is three main festival of the year that falls under winter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. It is a season of getting close with your family and friends and having the best time of your life. But, as Nepal is a Hindu country with a different culture, norms, value, and tradition, here we don’t celebrate any of the festivals. However, no need to worry as there are tons of things you can do in winter for celebration. So, here are the top five things you can do during winter in Nepal.
Go for a Food Adventure
Eating is one of the best parts of traveling where you get to taste the different food than usual. And winter is extra special because eating doesn’t stop in this season. With all the festivals going on, you get to eat a lot of dishes. But, if you are in Nepal away from family, you can still have the celebration. Nepal serves some of the most traditional and authentic cuisines you will ever taste.
Nepali thali, Newari Khaja set are some of the traditional food which has won many foreign hearts. Fast food like momo, street food like chat, chatpate, laphing is also on the top. But, if you want the taste of the festive food, then there are several restaurants and hotels where you can make your wish come true.
Go for a short hike
There are many destinations inside the valley itself where you can go for one day hike. Going for a day hike will be the ideal things, as it will be a nature walk, where you will witness the beautiful landscape and mountains views. Hiking during the winter season will make your body warm, and it will be blissful as you walk basking the warmth of the sun.
Nagarkot, Kakani, Namo Buddha, Phulchowki and Sundarijal are some of the popular one-day hikes inside the valley. Long day trek during winter is not so popular in Nepal as winter is very harsh and bitter in the higher altitude region with the risk of a snowstorm.
Visit Pokhara
Pokhara is the capital city of tourism of Nepal. It is a tourist hub where you will see many tourists walking in the streets than any other place. And during the winter season, especially in the occasion of new year, Pokhara held several events where you can visit and have the celebration. During the new year time, there is a street festival in the lakeside Pokhara for three days. In that street, you can enjoy food, drink, and dancing. It is also the biggest new year’s party in Nepal. You can also enjoy the delightful dinner gala and live music in several restaurants of Pokhara. Pokhara is the perfect palace to beat the winter with fun and celebration. So, put on the warm clothes and get a ride to Pokhara to witness the most amazing party festival of Nepal.
Have a wild night at Thamel
Thamel has been center of the tourism industry of Kathmandu for over four decades, and it is the popular host for every tourist. Thamel is home of street shops and restaurants always with the crowd pedestrians. Thamel meets the need of every tourist; it is the best place to visit to buy the items and equipment if you are on for some adventures, it also serves some of the best traditional and continental cuisine and the parties it held in the night are the most popular.
Especially during the festival season of winter, Thamel gets extra vibrant and alive with parties, live music, and several entertaining events. You can visit Thamel at night and get cozy with the alive environment around you.
Visit Terai region
Terai region of Nepal is characterized by plain land and dense forest. The region gets extra hot and quite unbearable with the heat of the scorching sun. So, winter might be the best time to visit the Terai region and explore the remains. National parks like Chitwan National Park, Bardia National Park, and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve lies in the Terai region and winter is probably the best time to this protected area.
During the winter wildlife comes out of the forest in the open place to bask the warmth of the sun as the sunlight cannot reach the forest with all the trees. So, this might give you the opportunity to witness several wildlife.
