Ghorepani is a small yet very beautiful and attractive village located in the Myagdi district of Nepal at a distance of 17 kilometers from the district capital Beni. There is a very interesting story about the naming of “Ghorepani.” Before the place used to be the resting spot for ancient traders where they found water (pani in Nepali) for their horses (ghora in Nepali) and thus this place was named as Ghorepani. It is located at an elevation of around 2,874 meters/9,429 feet within the area of Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA). Ghorepani contains several guest houses that provide food and accommodations. Likewise, Poon Hill is located at an elevation of 3,210 meters/10,531feet from where you can see the spectacular sunrise view and the view of mountains like Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Ghorepani is located on a major trail that links several other villages as well as the Annapurna Base Camp. It is regarded as one of the beautiful places of Nepal lying in the base of Poon Hill.

Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking takes place in the Annapurna mountain range of Nepal. As the maximum elevation level is 3,210 meters of the whole trek, there is no any extreme risk of altitude sickness, and it requires a moderate level of fitness to complete the trek. You can go for this trek any time in years, however, during the winter season, there might be a lot of snow in the trail making it a bit challenging.

To begin the trekking, Pokhara is the ideal choice as it is the closest city to begin treks in Annapurna range. From Pokhara, you will reach Nayapul in one and half hour of drive, and from Nayapul you will start your actual trek. Your first-day trekking isn’t so hard where you will walk uphill along a gravel road. You will also pass by beautiful bamboo forest and waterfalls. Then continuing the hiking, you will arrive at a village called Tikhedhunga, where you can find guesthouses for food and rest.

From Tikhedhunga, you will hike to Ghorepani. This hike will be quite challenging compared to the other day trail. You will walk straight up the face of the mountain for hours, and finally, after all the effort, you will see the breathtaking view of beautiful Annapurna peaks. Further continuing your hike, you will reach the beautiful village of Ghorepani. The next day you will hike to Poon Hill to witness the view of sunrise. It will take around an hour to climb the top of Poon Hill. The clear view of Annapurna range and the sunrise is majestic and worthy of all your effort. You will also witness the Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters), Tukche (6,920 meters), Nilgiri (6,940 meters), Annapurna I (8,091 meters), Hiunchuli (6,441 meters), Tarke Kang (7,193 meters), Gangapurna (7,454 meters), Lamjung Himal (6,986 meters), Machhapuchhre (6,997 meters).

After descending back to Ghorepani, you will hike to a small town Ghandruk, and from there to you can have the view of Annapurna ranges. Ghandruk is a very beautiful small town in Nepal, and it is also the second largest Gurung village of Nepal. You can enjoy the stunning mountain views and explore the culture and tradition of this thriving Gurung settlement. Now, from Ghandruk you will hike to a village called Deurali, from where you will ride back to the Pokhara.
