This fabulous trek, a perfect combination of moderate and vigorous walk leading to the high alpine valley with the backdrop of high snow capped peaks, in the spring this place is alive with wild flowers.

Become a pilgrim, and head to the shimmering lakes at Gosainkund.  There you will find peace and serenity alongside the Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims.  It is no wonder this area is sacred, affording views extending all the way to the Annapurnas.  Cross Laurabina Yak La Pass, (4,615 m), adjoining the Gosainkund and Helambu regions.  At this higher altitude, the terrain will transform to arid alpine above tree line and the villages will become sparser.  Descend on steep mountain trails high above the valley.  Culturally, Helambu is one of the most culturally wealthy regions in Nepal.  Prominent to this region north of Kathmandu, are peoples of Tibetan origin.

In the world’s scenic high valleys with an adventurous climb’

Adventure begins from Lukla after a spectacular mountain flight from Kathmandu. This adventurous route leads first to Namche Bazaar and then to Tengboche with two nights here for good acclimasation, then heading into the high valleys of Khumbu. At Gorak Shep in the Khumbu valley, an opportunity to be up at Kala Pattar [5,545m.] for the classic panoramic view of Everest South West Face and array of other giant snow capped peaks. Finally the trek heads for the Imja valley and Island Peak Base Camp, where we set up our own base camp at the foot of the mountain’s South ridge, surrounded by stunning ice scenery beneath the immense Nuptse-Lhotse wall which towers above.

Island Peak / Imja Tse (6189m/ 20305ft) located at the top of the Imja valley in the Khumbu region, just above the summer settlement of Chhukung, surrounded by Lhotse and Lhotse Shar glaciers. It offers a worthwhile challenge to the experienced winter mountaineer, competent in using ice axe and crampons, being technically straight forward.

There are some of the difficult sections being a mixed rock and ice wall at a slope of around 45 degrees leading to the narrow summit ridge, approximately Scottish winter grade 2. The climb will be undertaken towards the end of the trek when everyone will be fully acclimatised.

For those not attempting the climb of Island Peak, there is an opportunity to explore the Imja Khola Valley. This trip is highly recommended, even if you have no intention of climbing Island Peak. It will take you into high valleys, with plenty of time to visit Sherpa villages and monasteries and photographs the ever exciting moments from stunning view points.

From Island Peak base camp our route descend along the Imja Khola to Dingboche and make way to Namche Bazaar, passing through Pangboche village with time to visit the old gompa of this area and at Thyangboche as well.   After the great long descent from Namche, then following the Dudh Kosi valley to Lukla where a spectacular mountain flight brings you back to Kathmandu.

Rolwaling Tashi Laptsa Trek https://aasraecotreks.com.np/tours/rolwaling-tashi-laptsa-trek/ Thu, 19 May 2016 06:01:57 +0000 http://aasraecotreks.com.np/?post_type=tours&p=246 ROLWALING TASHI LAPTSA TREK

“an adventurous journey in the remote high alpine valleys”

Crossing over one of the most exciting passes of the Himalaya, Tashi Laptsa at 5,755 meter high, to enter into Khumbu Valley has made this trek popular to all adventurers for many years since the Rolwaing Valley was opened.

The Rolwaling valley is steep sided and covered in thick forests; therefore the climbs are sheer upright. But this is going to be one of the finest watershed crossings ever made in the entire of Himalaya. One of the highlight of the trip is the camp beside Bigu Gompa, which is an unusual and beautifully situated nunnery. Further walking through the summer pasture lands and narrow valleys that opens up into a wide bowl; give us our first taste of open mountain scenery – totally unique and mystical.

As we leave the Rolwaling Valley after having climbed the highest point of this adventure, we may feel although the trek is only just beginning.   Trekking back way we continue down traversing into the Thame Valley and onto Namche Bazaar and then to Lukla for the scenic panoramic flight to Kathmandu.
